May 1 Free Event to Highlight the Risks of Technology for Children


Polk Vision, in partnership with the Polk County Commission and Health and Human Services Division, is hosting a free event titled “Conversations in Behavioral Health: Navigating the Digital Age” on May 1 at Polk State College Center for Public Safety in Winter Haven. The event aims to educate parents and professionals about the challenges and risks of technology in children’s lives.

Keynote speaker Dr. Lisa Strohman, a technology wellness and behavioral health expert, will discuss raising responsible digital citizens and promoting a healthy balance with technology. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd will talk about the dangers of the digital world and the importance of parental awareness. Polk County Public Schools Superintendent Frederick Heid will address how social media impacts children’s mental health and relationships.

Other speakers include Dana Chandler, co-author of “Digital Distress: Growing Up Online Companion Workbook,” and Amanda Wilson, author of “You Can SOAR: From Trauma & Grief to Triumph & Glory.” Online registration is required for the event, and early registration is recommended due to limited space.
