Regulations for King Salmon Fishing in Southeast Alaska for 2024 Revealed

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game has announced the sport fishing regulations for king salmon in Southeast Alaska and Yakutat for the 2024 season. These regulations will be in effect from April 1, 2024, through April 30, 2025. For Alaska residents, the bag and possession limit is two king salmon of at least 28 inches in length. Nonresidents have a bag and possession limit of one king salmon of the same size. From January 1 to June 30, nonresidents have an annual harvest limit of three king salmon, which decreases to two from July 1 to July 15, and one for the rest of the year.

In specific areas like Haines, Skagway, and Ketchikan, there are additional regulations to protect wild Alaska king salmon stocks. For example, in the Haines and Skagway area, certain waters are closed to king salmon sport fishing to conserve the population. The same applies to Behm Canal and other areas near Ketchikan, where king salmon retention is prohibited for certain months to ensure the sustainability of the species.

Anglers are reminded to comply with these regulations and immediately report any harvested king salmon to ADF&G. For more information, residents and nonresidents alike can contact the appropriate ADF&G office or visit their website. These regulations aim to balance the enjoyment of sport fishing with the conservation of king salmon populations in Southeast Alaska.
