Alaska Sports Hall of Fame celebrates the accomplishments of youth athletes with the annual Pride of Alaska Awards. This year, six outstanding finalists from all over Alaska are in the running, including a national champion dog driver, a record-setting swimmer, and a standout volleyball player. Winners will be honored at a ceremony later this month, alongside other Director’s Awards recipients.
Among the nominees is 16-year-old Emily Robinson from Nenana, who has already made history in the Junior Iditarod by winning three consecutive titles. Colton Paul from Kipnuk shattered a world record in the Native Youth Olympics, while PJ Foy from Juneau set multiple state swimming records and qualified for the U.S. Olympic Trials.
Traditional high school sports are also represented, with Emma Beck leading Kenai Central to a state volleyball championship and Mai Mateaki playing a key role in Dimond’s success in soccer and flag football. Uatahouse Tu’ifua from Barrow excelled in wrestling and football, earning accolades for his skills on and off the field.
The winners of the Pride of Alaska Awards will be announced next week and celebrated at the Hall of Fame induction ceremony on April 30. The event will also recognize other outstanding individuals and moments in Alaska sports, highlighting the diverse talent and achievements across the state’s athletic community.
