A tragic incident occurred in Southwest Alaska on Thursday when a 3-year-old boy drowned in Togiak Bay. The Alaska State Troopers confirmed that the boy fell into the ocean around 1 p.m. and was unresponsive when an adult pulled him out of the water. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead at the clinic in Togiak.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim and another boy were playing by the bay when the accident happened. The 3-year-old fell into the water, prompting an adult to come to his rescue. The State Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
Southwest Alaska has a history of high drowning rates, with 40 people drowning in the region between 2019 and 2021 according to a report from the State of Alaska. This tragic incident highlights the importance of water safety, especially in regions prone to such incidents.
