Volt, a transnational political movement known as a ‘truly European Party’, has selected Sophie IN ‘T Veld from the Netherlands and Damian Boeselager from Germany as their lead candidates for the upcoming European Parliament election. Boeselager, the only Volt member elected in 2019, will now be joined by IN ‘T Veld as they aim to bring Volt’s priorities of deepening integration, fighting climate change, and building an EU army to the European Parliament.
Volt is running in 16 EU countries with a symbolic transnational list of candidates, though the actual lists vary by member state. If elected, the Volt candidates would join either the Liberal or Greens group in the European Parliament, with decisions being put to a vote among Volt members after negotiations with the groups.
The 2024 European Parliament election is set to take place on June 6th to 9th, with Volt aiming to make an impact on the European political landscape with their focus on European unity and proactive climate change measures. With their vision of a united Europe, Volt’s candidates are prepared to bring a fresh perspective to the European Parliament and work towards a more integrated and sustainable future for the European Union.
