Overnight, Kyiv and Moscow engaged in cross-border attacks as tensions escalate between Ukraine and Russia. Russia sent more artillery units to the Kursk region to push back Ukrainian forces, resulting in at least five people killed and 13 wounded in a Ukrainian strike on Belgorod. The governor of Belgorod, Vyacheslav Gladkov, announced the death toll and pledged to aid those affected by the attack.
In response to the Ukrainian offensive in Kursk, Russia declared a state of emergency in the region and deployed additional troops, including artillery units, to defend against the incursion. The conflict reached a new level when a Russian strike hit a hotel in Kramatorsk, Ukraine, injuring two journalists and leaving another missing. The Reuters news agency confirmed that their team was staying at the hotel during the attack.
Simultaneously, Russia launched missiles and drones across northern and eastern Ukraine, causing damage in the front-line regions of Chernihiv, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Donetsk. Kyiv’s military claimed to have destroyed most of the missiles with their air defenses. The mayor of Kharkiv reported a damaged gas pipeline and destroyed houses, while the governor of the Kharkiv region stated that seven people, including a child, were injured in the Russian attacks.
The situation remains volatile, with both sides engaging in retaliatory strikes and escalating tensions on the ground. The conflict has resulted in casualties on both sides and significant damage to infrastructure, prompting concerns about further escalation and the impact on civilians caught in the crossfire.
