A San Diego police officer and the driver of another vehicle were killed in a crash following a chase on Monday night. Another officer in the same vehicle as the deceased officer was critically injured and fighting for his life. The chase began when an officer attempted to stop a speeding vehicle on Clairemont Mesa Boulevard. The driver did not stop and led the police on a brief pursuit, which was called off due to dangerous speeds. The suspect’s vehicle then collided with the police vehicle carrying the two officers at a high speed. The names of the officers and the suspect were not released at the time. Due to the emotional impact of the incident, the California Highway Patrol will conduct an independent investigation to determine exactly what happened.
The injured officer was in the intensive care unit at a hospital. The crash involved two other vehicles, but neither driver sustained significant injuries. The police chief expressed deep sorrow at the loss of the officer and emphasized the risks that law enforcement officers take to help others. The crash occurred around 11:30 p.m. and involved a silver sedan with severe damage. The tragedy has left the police department and the community devastated.
