The University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) announced that 28 student-athletes from their Nanooks athletic program have received the prestigious Scholar-Athlete Awards from the Western Collegiate Hockey Association (WCHA). This award recognizes student-athletes who have excelled both academically and athletically.
Of the 28 recipients, 18 are women and 10 are men, representing a wide range of sports including ice hockey, cross country, rifle, skiing, swimming, and volleyball. This is a testament to the dedication and commitment of these student-athletes to succeed in all areas of their lives.
UAF Director of Athletics Dr. Keith Champagne expressed pride in the Nanooks who received this honor, noting that they exemplify the values of hard work, dedication, and excellence that the university strives to instill in all its athletes. He highlighted the importance of balancing academics and athletics, and commended the student-athletes for their achievements in both arenas.
The Scholar-Athlete Awards are given out by the WCHA each year to student-athletes who maintain a GPA of 3.50 or higher while actively participating in their sport. This recognition demonstrates the Nanooks’ commitment to academic excellence and showcases the university’s strong focus on supporting its student-athletes in their pursuit of success both on and off the field.
UAF is proud of the 28 student-athletes who have received this prestigious award and continues to support and nurture their growth and development in their academic and athletic endeavors. The university looks forward to seeing these exceptional individuals continue to excel in their future pursuits both in sports and in their chosen careers.
