The ongoing Israeli military operation in the north of the occupied West Bank has resulted in the deaths of at least nine Palestinians, with casualties mounting as air raids and military bulldozers destroy civilian infrastructure. Palestinian fighters have pushed back against the incursion, which the Israeli army claims is aimed at thwarting terrorism in Jenin and Tulkarem. The operation, one of the largest in years, follows an air strike that killed five people in the West Bank two days prior.
The focus of Wednesday’s operation is on three refugee camps in Jenin, Tulkarem, and Tubas, with ground troops also deployed. The Palestinian Authority and health officials report that at least 646 Palestinians, including 148 children, have been killed by Israeli soldiers and settlers in the occupied territory. Additionally, at least 128 Palestinians have died in Israeli air attacks.
The escalating violence in the West Bank has sparked international concern, with calls for an immediate ceasefire to prevent further loss of life. The United Nations and various countries have urged both sides to exercise restraint and seek a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
