South Korean singer Taeil, a member of the K-pop band NCT, has left the group following accusations of a sexual crime. Taeil, whose real name is Moon Tae-il, was discovered by label SM Entertainment in 2013 and joined NCT in 2016 as the main vocalist. The label has not provided details of the alleged crime, stating that an investigation is ongoing by the Bangbae police station in Seoul.
This incident adds to a series of sexual misconduct cases involving K-pop stars, including a recent case against former BAP member Himchan and allegations of assault against an unnamed singer. There have also been reports of K-pop singers being victims of sexual exploitation by their agencies.
In light of these incidents, there is growing awareness of the need to address issues of sexual misconduct and exploitation within the K-pop industry. In some cases, singers have taken legal action against their agencies, such as members of Omega X who requested release from their contract over alleged misconduct by Spire Entertainment’s executive.
As investigations continue and allegations are brought to light, the K-pop industry faces scrutiny over how it handles cases of sexual misconduct and ensures the safety and well-being of its artists. The case of Taeil highlights the need for transparency and accountability when addressing such serious allegations within the entertainment industry.
