James Darren, a beloved actor and singer known for his roles in 1960s beach movies and surf culture, passed away at the age of 88. He rose to fame as Moondoggie in the hit film “Gidget” alongside Sandra Dee. Darren’s success in the film led to a recording contract and several hit singles. He also had a successful behind-the-scenes career as a television director, working on shows like “Beverly Hills 90210” and “Melrose Place.”

Throughout his career, Darren appeared in numerous films and television shows, becoming a teen idol and eventually transitioning to adult roles. He was a series regular on “T.J. Hooker” and directed episodes of popular series like “Walker, Texas Ranger” and “Hunter.” Darren continued to act and make appearances in TV shows like “Melrose Place” and “Star Trek, Deep Space Nine” in the 1990s.
