Campaigns of Trump and Harris come to mutual agreement on regulations for ABC debate

Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump are set to debate next week in Philadelphia. The ground rules agreed upon by both campaigns stipulate muted microphones, similar to the previous debate between Trump and President Joe Biden. Trump initially expressed hesitance about participating, but has now agreed to the rules set by ABC News.

During a recent Fox News town hall, Trump stated that he would let Harris talk during the debate, and his strategy will depend on how fair he perceives ABC News to be. The 90-minute debate will have live microphones only for the candidate speaking, and both will have two-minute answer and rebuttal periods. The debate will be moderated by David Muir and Linsey Davis of ABC News with no audience present.

The Harris campaign had raised concerns about the muted microphone rule putting her at a disadvantage, but ultimately accepted it to avoid jeopardizing the debate. Trump, in a post on Truth Social, confirmed his agreement to the debate with ABC News. A coin flip determined podium placement and closing statements order, with Trump winning the toss and selecting to speak last during closing statements, while Harris chose the right podium position on the screen.

Overall, the debate will follow a similar format to the June debate between Trump and Biden, with both candidates hoping to present their visions to the voters without any disruptions or issues.
