British prosecutors have dropped indecent assault charges against Harvey Weinstein, citing a lack of realistic chance of securing a conviction. The charges stemmed from an alleged assault in London in 1996. The Crown Prosecution Service decided to discontinue criminal proceedings after reviewing the evidence and determining there was no longer a realistic prospect of conviction. Weinstein, who was previously found guilty of rape in the US in 2020 and sentenced to 23 years in prison, had his conviction overturned on appeal in April due to procedural errors. He faces a possible retrial in November. In a separate case in Los Angeles in 2022, Weinstein was convicted of raping an actress and sentenced to 16 years in prison. However, he has not yet begun serving the California sentence. Weinstein has consistently denied any wrongdoing and claims he has not engaged in any non-consensual sexual encounters. His legal battles continue as prosecutors in various jurisdictions grapple with securing convictions against the disgraced Hollywood producer.
