Atlanta rapper Rich Homie Quan, real name Dequantes Devontay Lamar, has passed away at the age of 33 in Georgia. The cause and manner of death have not been released, with an autopsy scheduled for Friday. Known for hits like “Type of Way” and “Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh),” his friend Boosie Badazz paid tribute to him on social media. Rich Homie Quan was a part of the rap publication XXL’s Freshman Class in 2014 alongside Chance the Rapper and others.
Quan’s impact extended beyond music, as former Michigan State football coach Mark Dantonio shared a photo of the rapper alongside him after a Rose Bowl win, with “Type of Way” being the team’s celebratory anthem. Nominated for several BET and BET Hip Hop Awards, he left his mark on the hip-hop world. His family and management representatives have not commented on his passing as of now.
