This weekend, heavy rain is expected to sweep across large parts of the UK, putting many at risk of flooding. The Met Office has warned of a new band of heavy and thundery rain moving northwards from the south coast on Saturday, affecting central and southern England and Wales. While no weather warnings were in place on Saturday morning, more could be issued as the weekend progresses.
Earlier in the week, heavy rain lashed southern England and Wales, leading to flood warnings in some areas. As of Saturday morning, one flood warning remained in place in Ilston, south Wales, with two flood alerts issued in the region. The Environment Agency also had two flood alerts in place in south-west England.
Met Office deputy chief meteorologist Dan Harris mentioned that the forecast for the weekend comes with larger uncertainties than average due to a complex meteorological pattern. While some areas may see sunny and dry spells, heavy rain is expected in central and southern areas on Sunday. Cooler temperatures and unsettled weather are expected into next week.
Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest forecasts and warnings as the situation develops. The potential for flooding and travel disruptions remains high in the affected areas, and precautions should be taken to ensure safety during this period of heavy rain.
