Records show that officer involved in Tyreek Hill’s detainment had 6 suspensions and multiple reprimands.

The Florida officer Danny Torres, who was investigated over the traffic stop and detainment of Miami Dolphins star Tyreek Hill, has been suspended six times and received several written reprimands between 2014 and 2019. Torres, a 27-year veteran, received suspensions ranging from five to 50 days and had four written reprimands during his career. The employee profile did not provide details on the reasons for the disciplinary actions.

Torres is currently on administrative duty pending an internal investigation into the incident with Hill on Sept. 8. Chief of Public Safety James Reyes said the actions in the body camera footage released were concerning and did not meet the department’s standard. Hill believes Torres should be fired and expressed concerns about potential mistreatment if he were not a famous football player.

Torres has also been involved in several complaints, with eight sustained allegations including unbecoming conduct violations and improper use of force. Despite this, he has received commendations for his performance, dedication, and teamwork over the years.

The incident on September 8 involved Hill being detained over allegations of careless driving and failure to wear a seat belt. Body camera footage showed Torres aggressively approaching Hill’s car, leading to a confrontation that resulted in Hill and Dolphins defensive lineman Calais Campbell being handcuffed. Attorney Ignacio Alvarez has demanded Torres’s reinstatement and an objective investigation into the incident.
