Tropical Storm Milton formed in the Gulf of Mexico and is expected to strengthen into a hurricane, posing a threat to Florida’s west coast next week. Maximum sustained winds are currently at 40 mph with higher gusts. This comes just days after Hurricane Helene made landfall in the state. The National Hurricane Center warns of potential life-threatening conditions and advises residents to prepare for hurricane and storm surge watches. Heavy rainfall is expected in Florida, with Pinellas County already making sandbags available to residents. The storm may also affect portions of the northern Yucatán Peninsula and western Cuba with two to four inches of rainfall. Residents in these areas, as well as in Florida, the Florida Keys, and the Bahamas, are urged to closely monitor the storm for any potential impacts.
