Pack of dogs in New York fatally maul man in backyard

Albany, New York police are investigating a fatal dog attack where a man was killed by a group of pit bull mixed dogs in a backyard. The victim, James Provost, was mauled by up to nine dogs, resulting in his death. An officer shot and killed one of the dogs to disperse the others. The dogs were found at a residence where the homeowner does not live, and a caretaker arrived on the scene to help corral the animals. Investigators found 24 pit bulls at the home, with 15 being puppies. The dogs were taken by the humane society due to their involvement in the attack.

The police are working with the district attorney’s office to determine possible criminal charges in the case. The fate of the dogs, some of which are unlicensed, will be decided by another authority. It is unclear why there were so many dogs at the residence or how they got into the neighboring yard. The home where the dogs were kept was previously searched in connection with suspected drug activity, resulting in some dogs being turned over to the humane society and later released.

The investigation into the fatal dog attack is ongoing, and further details about the previous search warrant at the home have not been disclosed.
