Former President Donald Trump is set to hold a rally in Aurora, Colorado, this afternoon, focusing on his anti-immigrant message. Although Aurora is not a swing state, Trump has chosen to hold his rally there due to high levels of immigration in the area. Trump has been spreading factually questionable allegations about immigrants committing crimes and specifically targeting violent Venezuelan gang members from Tren de Aragua. Despite crime rates being on the decline in Aurora, Trump is set to amplify this message during his rally.
Meanwhile, Trump’s campaign made an unprecedented request for military vehicles and aircraft to transport and protect the former president, citing fears of an Iranian assassination plot. The Secret Service has increased protection for Trump since suspects with no known ties to Iran tried to assassinate him, but the campaign feels that additional measures are necessary. The request for military resources came after the campaign received briefings that Iran was actively plotting to kill Trump.
In the midst of the election season, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has warned Vice President Kamala Harris to beware of potential October surprises that could impact the race. Clinton reflected on her own experience in the 2016 election, where an announcement by then-FBI director James Comey regarding her private email server negatively affected her campaign. As the 2024 election approaches, the possibility of unexpected events having an impact remains a concern for both campaigns.
