In northwestern Pakistan, at least 11 people were killed and eight injured, including women and children, in tribal clashes in Kurram district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The violence erupted following a shooting incident between rival tribes, with vehicles being targeted in different areas of the district. Efforts are being made to secure travel routes and restore normalcy, with injured individuals taken to a hospital for treatment. Local elders are attempting to mediate a peace agreement between the warring tribes, emphasizing the need for lasting peace.
In southwestern Pakistan, the separatist group Balochistan Liberation Army claimed responsibility for an attack that killed 21 people at a coal mine in Dukki district. The group used heavy weapons, rocket launchers, and grenades in the attack, claiming the casualties were higher than reported and accusing Pakistani security personnel of disguising themselves as workers. The BLA threatened further assaults unless the military withdrew from the province, citing grievances over the exploitation of resources by the central government.
The BLA, designated as a terrorist group by Pakistan, the UK, and the US, has been involved in previous attacks targeting Chinese nationals in Pakistan. One such attack near the country’s largest airport resulted in the death of two Chinese citizens and injuries to others. The group’s actions highlight ongoing tensions in Balochistan, where armed movements seek autonomy from the central government, accusing it of neglecting the local population while exploiting the province’s resources.
