Former President Donald Trump has called for the death penalty for migrants who kill Americans or law enforcement officers multiple times during campaign rallies in Nevada and Colorado. He has also advocated for using the death penalty against human and drug traffickers in the past. Trump’s comments come as he intensifies his anti-immigrant rhetoric in his bid to defeat Vice President Kamala Harris. He has attempted to portray noncitizens entering the U.S. as a threat to Americans’ safety and livelihood.
At a rally in Aurora, Colorado, Trump claimed the city was “invaded and conquered” by migrants who entered the country illegally. He pledged to “rescue” the city from these individuals. However, Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman, a Republican, refuted these claims, saying they were inaccurate.
Trump has also spread false claims linking immigrants to violence in other states, such as suggesting that Haitian immigrants were eating local pets in Springfield, Ohio, during a presidential debate. Local officials denied any credible reports of immigrants harming pets. Despite some pushback, Trump continues to push his anti-immigrant narrative and emphasize the need for harsh penalties against those who commit crimes against Americans. His statements reflect his ongoing efforts to rally support among his base by demonizing immigrants and portraying them as a threat to the nation.
