A police officer in downtown Seattle made a daring rescue of a man in a “mental health crisis” who was standing on a ledge above train tracks. The officer risked his life to pull the man to safety just seconds before a train rushed past. The dramatic rescue was captured on video released by the Seattle Police Department. Police were called to the scene at 2nd Avenue East and East Jackson St last week, and surrounding officers tried to persuade the man to climb up to safety. Despite asking for trains to be stopped, one was already on its way through King Street Station below. The man slipped and fell 25 feet onto the tracks, sustaining serious injuries. Two officers quickly went onto the tracks to rescue him as an oncoming train sounded its horn. They were able to pull him to safety just before the train passed. The man suffered multiple fractures and was treated at the scene before being taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition. Thanks to the quick actions of the first responders, the man survived the incident. The Seattle Police Department praised the officers for their bravery and lifesaving efforts in a post on Facebook.
