China is cracking down on smuggling and other serious crimes, working with countries like the United States to combat these activities. The National Immigration Administration in China stated that smugglers and criminal groups have been deceiving people to participate in smuggling activities, leading to serious threats to personal safety and economic losses. The United States has deported Chinese nationals who entered the country illegally back to China with charter flights due to the difficulty in obtaining U.S. visas and the economic impact of China’s Covid-19 lockdowns. This has resulted in a significant increase in Chinese migrants presenting at the U.S.-Mexico border, with nearly 56,000 Chinese migrants encountered at various border points in the 2024 fiscal year through May, more than the total number in the previous year. Both countries are working together to crack down on smuggling and other crimes based on mutual respect and consultation.
