Tech billionaire Elon Musk stated during a town hall event that he believes all voting should be done in person, on paper, and with a form of identification. This is despite his own history of voting by mail and efforts by his pro-Trump super PAC to promote mail-in and absentee ballots. Musk also promoted a debunked conspiracy theory about Dominion Voting Systems rigging elections. There is no evidence of widespread voter fraud in the United States through any voting method. Musk’s super PAC, America PAC, has promoted absentee voting in support of Trump, despite Musk’s opposition to mail-in voting, which he claims is susceptible to fraud. Musk suggested creating a database to track votes to prevent fraud and recommended posting evidence of irregularities on his social media app X. During the town hall, Musk also entertained various false conspiracy theories, including claims about immigrant voter fraud in swing states and joked about the Capitol attack on January 6. Though Musk and his super PAC have conflicting stances on voting methods, Musk continues to voice his opposition to mail-in voting despite his own practices.
