Galen Brantley Jr., the head coach of Soldotna High School football team, has made history by becoming the winningest high school coach in Alaska with 160 wins and counting. This achievement was reached after a decisive 57-21 victory over West Valley. Brantley Jr. has led the team to 14 state championships, including eight consecutive wins from 2012 to 2019. He also holds the record for a historic win streak of 59 games.
After the recent win, the Stars improved to a 4-0 record this season and extended their current win streak to 15 games. Brantley Jr., who has been the head coach since 2007, surpassed former Palmer coach Rod Christiansen for the most wins in the state’s history in just 18 seasons.
The Soldotna High School graduate will have the chance to face Christiansen’s former program, Palmer, in Week 5 of the season. This matchup adds extra significance to Brantley Jr.’s achievement, as he continues to make a mark on Alaska high school football history. The Stars, under his leadership, are looking to continue their winning streak and defend their state title from last year.
