Early voting starts for Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Idaho, North Dakota, South Carolina, and Texas

Early in-person voting has begun in several states including Alaska, Arkansas, Connecticut, Idaho, North Dakota, South Carolina, and Texas. Important down-ballot races are taking place in these states, with key battleground House districts up for grabs.

In Alaska, the at-large district race between Democratic incumbent Mary Peltola and Republican challenger Nick Begich, is one to watch after Peltola’s historic upset in 2022. Connecticut’s 5th District sees Rep. Jahana Hayes facing off against former state Sen. George Logan, while Texas’ 28th and 34th Districts feature Democratic incumbents Henry Cuellar and Vicente Gonzalez defending their seats against Republican challengers.

Voters in these states can cast their ballots through early in-person voting, mail-in voting, or on Election Day, with specific deadlines and processes varying by state. For example, in Alaska, residents can vote early in-person starting October 21, and can register in person on Election Day. In Arkansas, voters can also start early in-person voting on the same date, with a voter registration deadline of October 7.

In Texas, absentee voting started in early October, with early in-person voting commencing on October 21 and running through November 1. Voter registration closed on October 7 for Texas residents. For more information on registration, voting processes, and deadlines in each state, voters are encouraged to visit the respective election websites or Vote.gov.
