New video captures the excitement of flying in Alaska’s stunning landscapes.

KÜHL’s latest installment in “The Road Less Traveled” video series captures the thrilling adventure of two friends soaring above the majestic peaks of Talkeetna, Alaska. In Episode 3, professional pilot Joe McAneney and aviation mechanic Andrew Esola navigate a single-engine Cessna around Denali, showcasing the unique challenges of bush flying in the state’s unpredictable weather and rugged terrain.

This 10-minute film delves into the complexities that Alaska aviators regularly encounter, from isolated airstrips to rapidly changing conditions. “The kind of flying we’re doing here isn’t something you learn in books,” Esola explains, emphasizing the excitement and occasional anxiety that come with each flight. “It gets a little less scary every time, so it quickly becomes addictive to keep pushing that edge.” Their journey pays homage to legendary pioneers Don Sheldon and Brad Washburn, who mapped the region from the air 75 years ago.

Aviation holds a deep significance in the Alaskan community, and both McAneney and Esola reflect on their desire to carry on the legacy of those who came before them. “You wonder how to continue their legacy and add to what they left behind,” Esola adds.

Viewers can watch the captivating film on YouTube or visit KÜHL’s website for more information. KÜHL is an independent outdoor clothing brand committed to celebrating the spirit of adventure.
