In a significant boost for maritime infrastructure, Alaska’s congressional delegation has announced a fund allocation of $104 million for port projects throughout the state. Senators Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan, along with Representative Mary Peltola, detailed the funding spread across six coastal communities: Anchorage, Dillingham, Hoonah, Juneau, Kodiak, and Saint Paul.

Senator Murkowski emphasized the vital role of ports in Alaska, noting, “With so many communities across the state inaccessible by road, ports are essential to our supply chain and distributing key resources that Alaskans need.” Anchorage is set to benefit the most, receiving approximately $50 million for a new general cargo terminal at the Port of Alaska. Other communities will each receive around $11 million for their respective port projects.

The St. Herman Harbor project in Kodiak will receive part of the funds, contributing about 18.3% towards its estimated $60 million cost. The funding comes through the federal Port Infrastructure Development Program, part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law signed by President Biden in 2021.
