Donald Trump Announces Elon Musk as Head of New U.S. ‘Government Efficiency’ Department

Trump Appoints Elon Musk to Lead New ‘Department of Government Efficiency’

Washington, D.C. – In a significant move, President-elect Donald Trump announced that billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk will head the newly established ‘Department of Government Efficiency.’ This appointment comes as part of Trump’s agenda to streamline government operations and tackle bureaucratic inefficiencies. Indian-American entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy will also play a key role in this initiative.

In an official statement, Trump emphasized the intention behind this new department: "Together, these two wonderful Americans will pave the way for my Administration to dismantle Government Bureaucracy, slash excess regulations, cut wasteful expenditures, and restructure Federal Agencies." The president-elect reaffirmed his commitment to reducing “massive waste and fraud” within the government and improving the daily lives of Americans.

Musk, known for his leadership at Tesla and SpaceX, is a prominent supporter of Trump and was actively involved in the recent presidential campaign. During his victory speech, Trump praised Musk as an "amazing and super genius guy," highlighting the billionaire’s two-week campaign tour across Pennsylvania, which bolstered Trump’s visibility and voter engagement.

Musk’s backing for Trump was also financial; reports indicate he contributed over $100 million to support Trump’s re-election efforts. His engagement included leveraging his platform on X (formerly Twitter) to promote Trump’s candidacy.

Additionally, their alliance appears to be expanding; on November 9, Trump suggested Musk join a call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, further indicating Musk’s expected influence in the administration. Trump’s win in the elections, with a margin of 69 electoral votes over Democratic rival Kamala Harris, sets a transformative tone for the incoming administration.
