Hockey team hosts UAF for the Alaska Airlines Governor’s Cup in an exciting showdown!

Alaska Anchorage is set to host Alaska Fairbanks in the first two matches of the Alaska Airlines Governor’s Cup on November 15-16 at the Avis Alaska Sports Complex. The all-time series favors Alaska Anchorage, leading with a record of 92-77-13, and an impressive home record of 52-32-7 against Alaska Fairbanks.

The Alaska Airlines Governor’s Cup, which commenced in 1993, has seen the Seawolves claim victory in the contest eight times. Currently, UAA is under the leadership of head coach Matt Shasby, who is in his third season with a record of 24-42-3. He is supported by assistants Chris Kamal, Aaron McPheters, and Vincent Pietrangelo.

In recent performances, senior Tanner Edwards scored his first goal of the season in a narrow 2-1 loss to No. 9 Colorado College on October 25th, leading the team with four points. Junior Connor Cole also recorded his first point of the season during the same game.

UAA is 1-0-0 when scoring first this season, while struggling with a 0-7-0 record when their opponents score first. Notably, UAA has netted more goals in the third period than the combined total of the first and second periods. After a tough series against Colorado College, the Seawolves look ahead to hosting Lake Superior State on November 23-24.
