Must Read Alaska predicts Nick Begich as the winner of Alaska’s congressional race

After the Alaska Division of Elections counted over 38,000 more votes, some slight changes have been noted in various Alaska races, particularly in the tight race between Rep. Mary Peltola and Nick Begich for Alaska’s one congressional seat. According to the most recent numbers released by the division, data analysis done by @cinyc9 on Twitter suggests that Begich is leading with over 52% of the votes when all second- and third-place votes are redistributed, giving him a clear victory.

In an analysis of the ranked-choice process, Begich gained 19,470 votes, while Rep. Mary Peltola gained 21,488, confirming Begich’s lead. The remaining 20,000 votes yet to be counted would need to heavily favor Peltola for her to overcome Begich’s lead, but current trends indicate otherwise, projecting Begich as the winner of the congressional seat.

The ballots counted included a mix of absentee, early voting, and questioned ballots. The Division of Elections will ultimately determine the final winner, and they are set to release their analysis on Nov. 20, making Alaska the last state to announce election results.

While this privately conducted analysis of raw data may suggest a winner, the Division of Elections will have the final say in determining the official outcome of this closely watched race.
