The Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) recently announced the recipients of the 2023-24 GNAC Faculty Athletic Representative Scholar-Athlete Awards, presented by Barnes & Noble College. A record-breaking 394 GNAC student-athletes were honored, with 28 coming from the Alaska Nanooks. Thirteen male student-athletes and 15 female student-athletes received the award, with several repeat winners among them.
Among the male recipients, six athletes received the award for the second time, and two athletes received it for the third and fourth time. Additionally, seven male athletes were first-time recipients. On the female side, 10 athletes received the award for the second time, two for the third time, and one athlete for the fourth time. Five female athletes were first-time recipients.
The GNAC FAR Scholar-Athlete Award recognizes student-athletes with a cumulative GPA of 3.85 or higher, regardless of whether their sport is a GNAC championship sport. Faculty athletic representatives (FARs) serve as liaisons between the institution’s faculty and athletic department, ensuring a balance between academics and athletics.
The awards highlight the academic achievements of student-athletes in the GNAC and showcase their dedication to both their sport and their studies. The increase in recipients from previous years demonstrates the commitment of GNAC student-athletes to excelling both on and off the field.
