Nelly, the rapper, will not face charges following his arrest at a casino in August.

The musician Nelly, known for hit songs like “Air Force Ones” and “Hot In Herre,” will not face charges after being arrested in a St. Louis casino in August. The St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office stated that they did not find enough evidence to warrant pressing charges against Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Haynes II. He was originally arrested on an outstanding warrant for no proof of insurance, with state police alleging that he had four ecstasy pills on him.

The police department in Maryland Heights, a suburb of St. Louis, claimed they arrested Nelly for failure to appear on an old traffic charge after state police brought him in. Nelly’s lawyer, Scott Rosenblum, argued that Nelly was not notified about the warrant and suggested that he was unfairly targeted by an overzealous officer who checked for warrants after Nelly won money at the casino.

Nelly was born in Texas but moved to St. Louis as a child and grew up there. His lawyer maintained that the lack of notification about the warrant, combined with the circumstances of his arrest, were unjust and inappropriate. Ultimately, it was determined that the evidence did not support moving forward with charges against Nelly in this case.
