The Pennsylvania Senate race between Republican Dave McCormick and Democratic Sen. Bob Casey is heading to a recount due to the narrow margin between the two candidates triggering it under state law. With just over 29,000 votes separating them, McCormick currently holds a slight lead. Any margin under 0.5 percentage points necessitates a recount in Pennsylvania. McCormick’s camp believes his lead is insurmountable, while Casey has not conceded the race and stated that there are still many votes to count. Former President Donald Trump carried Pennsylvania in the past, but there is a drop-off in votes between him and McCormick. Despite declaring victory shortly after the election, McCormick has stated he will respect the recount process. Senate Republicans have already secured the majority in the Senate, and Democratic candidates in other states have won their races. The recount must be completed by Nov. 26, with results being published on Nov. 27. Both campaigns are preparing for the recount process, with McCormick focusing on moving forward and changing the direction of the country.
