FAIRBANKS, Alaska (KTVF) – On the morning of September 29, 1996, 17-year-old Stella Anastasia Evon vanished after leaving her sister’s apartment in Bethel, Alaska. Her sister witnessed her walk toward their grandmother’s house, but Stella has not been seen since.
Described as a kind and vibrant Yup’ik girl, Stella had attended a party on the night of September 28 before returning home around 3 a.m., only to find her grandmother’s door locked. After failing to wake her grandmother, Stella sought assistance from a nearby police officer, who then drove her to her sister’s apartment. Stella arrived around 4:30 a.m., planning to wait until her grandmother could let her in.
Tragically, the last confirmed sighting of Stella occurred shortly afterward when she left the apartment on foot. Despite her family’s efforts and monetary rewards for information, no leads have surfaced in her case. Authorities classify Stella as endangered and missing under suspicious circumstances, but she has never been deemed a runaway.
At the time of her disappearance, Stella was under 5 feet tall, with brown eyes and long, curly black hair. She was last seen wearing a dark blue Georgetown University hoodie, a brown leather jacket, and blue jeans. If alive today, Stella would be 45 years old.
Anyone with potential information regarding Stella’s case is urged to reach out to authorities.
