Innovative Farming Technology Shines at Chico State’s 3rd Annual Precision Ag Day

Chico State’s third annual Precision Ag Day brought together students, local community members, and agricultural innovation companies to showcase the latest technological advancements in agriculture. The event highlighted the importance of staying up-to-date with the ever-evolving industry, which not only reduces labor costs but also promotes environmentally friendly production.

Companies like Vantage Sierra Cascade showcased technology that allows tractors to operate without a driver, addressing the issue of labor shortages and high costs. By implementing cutting-edge technologies, growers can minimize inputs, labor costs, and materials applied in the field, ultimately improving efficiency and productivity.

California, being the leading agricultural state in the country, continues to drive mechanical innovations in the industry, with Butte County alone exporting agricultural goods to over 50 countries and 11 states in 2023. The annual Ag Day event serves as a platform to highlight the vital role of agriculture in providing essential resources like food, shelter, and clothing.

Broc Bettencourt, a Chico State student, emphasized the importance of agriculture in Butte County, where tree crops are a significant focus. He stated, “Without farming, we wouldn’t have food, shelter, clothes, any of that.” Precision Ag Day serves as a valuable opportunity for attendees to learn about the various technologies available to enhance agricultural practices and drive the industry forward.
