Penn State hockey is gearing up for a promising 2024-25 season with a fresh lineup of players, including highly touted freshmen and a transfer goalie. The Nanooks have undergone significant roster turnover, with 19 new skaters joining the team.
Captain Braden Birnie is a key player to watch for the Nanooks, known for his two-way play and defensive prowess. Penn State will also need to keep an eye on newcomers Brendan Ross and Trenton Penner, who bring elite offensive skills to the Alaska roster. The Nanooks’ defensive core, led by Broten Sabo and Will Hilfiker, will be crucial in keeping the game close.
With only two holdovers from the previous season’s defensive lineup, the Nanooks looked to the transfer portal and junior hockey ranks for players to bolster their blue line. Freshman Nathan Rickey brings a strong offensive game to the team, adding to their defensive depth.
