Heavy Snow and Winter Alerts Forecasted for Southern Alaska
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) — Southern Alaska is bracing for a significant snowstorm after a lull in storm activity. An area of low pressure is expected to bring heavy snowfall, strong winds, and dangerous surf conditions to Southwest Alaska from Thursday through Friday morning.
The Kenai Peninsula will experience light snow on Thursday, accumulating 2-4 inches by early Friday, with more snow expected throughout the day. Anchorage and the Mat-Su area may see light snow Thursday evening, intensifying late Friday through Saturday, with accumulations of 2-4 inches.
Southeast Alaska is also in for significant snowfall, with Juneau expecting up to 2 inches late Thursday and a wintry mix on Friday. The Haines Highway could see 3-6 inches, while the Klondike Highway may receive 8-15 inches overnight through Friday.
Following the storm, Southern Alaska is projected to experience drier and colder conditions next week. Residents are encouraged to prepare their winter gear in anticipation of the snowfall!
