Luigi Mangione, who was accused of the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, has hired attorney Karen Friedman Agnifilo to represent him in New York. Friedman Agnifilo, a former chief assistant district attorney in Manhattan, has declined to make any statements at this time. Mangione was arrested in Altoona, Pennsylvania, where evidence linking him to the shooting was found in his possession. He faces charges in both New York and Pennsylvania, including murder, possession of a firearm, forgery, and other related offenses. Mangione is currently in jail and fighting extradition to New York. Following his arrest, online fundraisers were started to support his legal defense, but they have since been removed from GoFundMe due to their policy against fundraising for violent crimes. Another fundraiser on GiveSendGo is still active and has raised over $94,000. Mangione’s family could not be reached for comment, but his attorney in Pennsylvania has stated that his client will plead not guilty. Both Thomas Dickey and Karen Friedman Agnifilo are not immediately available for comment.
