A woman named Svetlana Dali, who was charged as a stowaway after boarding a flight from New York to Paris without a ticket, has been arrested near the Canadian border after cutting off her ankle bracelet. She was stopped by Canadian authorities and is now in FBI custody. Dali had cut off the ankle bracelet while with her boyfriend and then took a Greyhound bus to Buffalo. She had been arraigned in federal court for the stowaway incident and was ordered to be monitored with a GPS bracelet. She will have a court appearance before being turned over to federal officials in New York.
Dali boarded the Delta flight bypassing security and ticketing checkpoints and completed a full security screening before getting on the plane. She was eventually stopped by Delta employees who realized she didn’t have a boarding pass and she was detained by French authorities upon landing in Paris. Dali admitted to taking the flight without a boarding pass and acknowledged the illegality of her actions. If convicted, she could face up to five years in prison, a fine, or both. Her attorney did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The FBI declined to comment on the matter.
