Locals in Anchorage, Alaska are flocking to see the newly completed Snow Ella, a 20-foot creation in the Ship Creek industrial area. With lashed eyes, foam mittens, and a matching hat, Snow Ella has quickly become a local sensation. Created by Cyrus Aldeman, Snow Ella was initially intended to be a tourist attraction but has since become a draw for residents.
Inspired by Anchorage’s iconic Snowzilla, a giant snowman, Aldeman wanted to create a giant snowwoman after a child’s suggestion. The construction of Snow Ella was a labor of love for Aldeman and his team, who faced challenges due to Anchorage’s warm winter. The team used donated snow and about 80 pallets to build Snow Ella around a telephone pole.
The completion of Snow Ella has attracted many visitors, including families and individuals who come to take photos and appreciate the creation. Aldeman has also written a children’s book to accompany Snow Ella, highlighting her journey to find Snowzilla.
Locals like Ruth Dodson have expressed their admiration for Snow Ella, and even Snowzilla’s creator, Billy Ray Powers, plans to visit the new snow sculpture. Powers and his team are eager for fresh powder to resurrect Snowzilla and continue the tradition of creating large snow sculptures in Anchorage.
