Celebrate brighter days at Solstice Soup Social, uniting community in anticipation of sunnier times ahead.

Spenard Joe’s, a small drive-up coffee shop in Anchorage, Alaska, is spreading holiday cheer by hosting a Solstice Soup Social in a neighboring parking lot. Despite its limited square footage, the business’s owner, Garrett Martin, has arranged for local artists and vendors to set up shop on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Attendees can enjoy a variety of soups not typically on the menu, along with the usual offerings.

Martin, a Spenard resident, views the event as a way to celebrate the neighborhood and maintain the shop’s status as a community hub. The Solstice Soup Social comes just after the winter solstice on December 21, marking the beginning of longer days in Alaska. Alaskans, like Martin, eagerly anticipate the return of more sunlight.

In addition to the soups and other goods available at the market, Spenard Joe’s is also launching new merchandise, including shirts, hoodies, and packaged food items like tea, syrups, and coffee beans. The event provides an opportunity for last-minute gift shopping and a chance to support local businesses.

Spenard Joe’s, located at 3831 Spenard Rd., invites the community to join in the festivities and embrace the increasing daylight. More information about the event can be found on their website.
