Legislators in Juneau will enjoy a busy holiday season filled with important work and festivities.

Rep. Sara Hannan and Rep. Andi Story of Juneau are set to move to higher office positions within the Alaska State Capitol as a result of their transition from the minority caucus to the majority caucus in the upcoming legislative session. Hannan, currently hosting her holiday reception in a fourth-floor office, will be moving to a fifth-floor office traditionally held by majority members of the House Finance Committee. Story, a co-chair of the House Education Committee, will also have the opportunity to choose a new office. The annual holiday open house hosted by Juneau’s legislative delegation provided visitors with the chance to discuss a variety of issues with their representatives, including concerns about infant learning and elder care. Dardis, the director of the Infant Learning Program, expressed urgency in seeking increased funding for the program which has been stagnant for over a decade. Senator Jesse Kiehl also engaged with constituents, including one who suggested safety improvements for roads with obscured views. The open house served as an opportunity for constructive dialogue between legislators and the public on important issues facing the state.
