Police shoot and kill man who drove into Texas mall, striking several people

A man who drove into a Texas mall on Saturday, striking multiple people, was shot and killed by police. The man crashed into a JC Penney store at the Killeen Mall, shattering glass doors and continuing to drive about 100 yards while running people over. Police opened fire and fatally shot the suspect, who was the only reported death. Four people were taken to hospitals with injuries ranging from severe to minor, while another person with minor injuries walked into a hospital. The injured individuals range in age from six to 75. The Texas Rangers are investigating the police shooting to confirm no threat to the community remains. Authorities stressed there was no active shooter at the mall, contrary to initial reports. Police initially pursued the man due to a report of a possibly intoxicated driver on the highway. The driver entered the mall parking lot and crashed into the store. The Killeen Mall, with over 90 retailers, urged the public to avoid the area to allow first responders and investigators to handle the situation. Killeen is located about 67 miles north of Austin.
