The Miami University hockey team secured a 3-2 victory over Alaska Anchorage, giving head coach Anthony Noreen his first win with the program. The RedHawks, now 1-0-2, saw goals from Johnny Waldron, Max Dukovac, and William Hallén. Goalie Bruno Bruveris made 25 saves to secure the win. Connor Marritt led the Seawolves with two points in the game.
Waldron opened the scoring with a power-play goal in the first period, followed by Dukovac doubling the lead with another power-play goal in the second period. Despite a goal from Marritt early in the third period, Hallén quickly responded with a goal of his own to maintain Miami’s two-goal lead. Alaska Anchorage managed to score a late extra-attacker goal, but the RedHawks held on for the win.
Raimonds Vitolins had multiple assists, Colby Ambrosio reached his 70th collegiate point, and Christophe Fillion earned his 30th career assist. Dukovac scored for the second consecutive game, and Miami showcased a strong penalty kill, going 13-for-14 this season.
The Three Stars of the Game were awarded to Bruveris, Waldron, and Vitolins. The RedHawks and Seawolves will face off again on Saturday to conclude their two-game series. The game will take place on October 12 at 7:05 p.m. in Oxford.
