Tragic Plane Crash in Gramado Claims 10 Lives, Injures 17
A small twin-engine plane crashed in a residential area of Gramado, Brazil, on Sunday, resulting in the deaths of all 10 individuals on board and injuring over a dozen people on the ground. The Piper PA-42-1000 aircraft struck a home’s chimney and impacted the second floor of another house before crashing into a local shop shortly after taking off from Canela.
The victims included the plane’s owner and pilot, Luiz Claudio Galeazzi, alongside nine members of his family. Rio Grande do Sul Governor Eduardo Leite addressed the media, confirming the fatalities and reporting that 17 people on the ground were injured, with 12 still under medical care.
Galeazzi & Associados, the company’s CEO, mourned the loss of Galeazzi, his wife, and three daughters, describing him as a dedicated family man and an esteemed leader in the community. In a heartfelt statement on LinkedIn, the company expressed gratitude for the support and solidarity from friends, colleagues, and the local community during this difficult time. They also extended sympathies to all those affected by the crash.
Gramado, a popular tourist destination in the Serra Gaucha mountains known for its festive atmosphere, particularly around Christmas, is now left reeling from the tragedy. The crash occurs just over a year after Brazil’s worst air disaster in nearly two decades, highlighting ongoing concerns over aviation safety in the region.
As authorities investigate the cause of the crash, the community stands united in grief, remembering the lives lost and wishing a swift recovery to those injured in this devastating incident.
