Breaking News: Five Journalists Killed in Israeli Airstrike Near Gaza Hospital
In a tragic incident recorded early Thursday morning, five journalists from the Al-Quds Today channel were killed in an Israeli airstrike near al-Awda Hospital in the Nuseirat refugee camp, central Gaza. Palestinian authorities and media outlets report that the journalists were inside their broadcasting van when it was struck by the airstrike.
Social media footage shows the vehicle engulfed in flames, marked prominently with the word “press” in red on its back. The deceased journalists have been identified as Fadi Hassouna, Ibrahim al-Sheikh Ali, Mohammed al-Ladah, Faisal Abu al-Qumsan, and Ayman al-Jadi. Notably, Ayman al-Jadi was reportedly waiting outside the hospital for his wife, who was in labor preparing to give birth to their first child.
Civil defense teams promptly retrieved the bodies and extinguished the fire at the scene. There has been no immediate response from Israeli authorities regarding the incident.
This airstrike marks a continuing trend of violence against journalists in the ongoing conflict, which has seen at least 141 journalists killed in Gaza since October 7, 2023, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ). Earlier this month, the CPJ condemned Israel’s actions after the deaths of four Palestinian journalists within the same week, calling for accountability from the international community for attacks on the media.
As the situation unfolds, the killings of these journalists serve as a grim reminder of the risks faced by those covering the conflict, emphasizing the need for protective measures and accountability for attacks on press freedom.
