Israel increases deployment of dystopian technology in the West Bank

The Israeli army is preparing to deploy dystopic technological security systems in the occupied West Bank, raising concerns about a potential escalation of violence in the region. These systems, including watchtowers and mechanisms that can fire live ammunition remotely, are being implemented under the pretext of preventing infiltration.

The move comes amid ongoing Israeli raids on Palestinian cities and settlement attacks, as well as calls for annexing the West Bank and treating it similarly to the Gaza Strip. Anti-settlement activist Bashar Qaryouti highlighted that Israel is tightening control over the West Bank by installing surveillance cameras, drones, and gates at Palestinian village entrances.

The deployment of the “Roeh-Yoreh” system, developed by Rafael Combat Systems, is seen as a means to enhance Israeli security measures. However, experts like Suleiman Bisharat criticize Israel for prioritizing lethal technologies over human elements within the army, pointing out the ethical dilemmas and potential legal repercussions.

Bisharat argues that Israel’s reliance on lethal technology reflects a growing mentality of fascism within the army, particularly in its treatment of Palestinians. The focus on creating technological means of killing is seen as a way to protect soldiers from legal prosecution but raises concerns about human rights violations in the occupied territories.

Overall, the deployment of dystopic security systems in the West Bank has sparked fears of increased violence and tensions in the region, as Israel continues to tighten its grip on Palestinian territories.
