Why George Soros is Viewed as ‘Public Enemy Number 1’ by India’s Modi | Narendra Modi News

Title: India’s BJP Intensifies Attack on Opposition, Targets George Soros Amid Political Turmoil

New Delhi, India – As Parliament convened for its winter session, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition, primarily the Congress party, faced increasing tensions against a backdrop of ongoing crises, including continued ethnic clashes in Manipur and economic challenges.

In a striking move, BJP leaders staged a demonstration in Parliament, accusing Congress of being backed by George Soros, a Hungarian-American philanthropist. The BJP has been intensifying its campaign against Soros since early 2023, claiming he funds opposition efforts to undermine Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, especially as the BJP’s majority position falters ahead of the 2024 elections.

Accusations against the U.S. State Department surfaced as the BJP alleged collaboration with Soros to destabilize India. Using posts on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), the BJP pointed to reports about Soros’ funding of investigative reporting efforts addressing allegations of governmental corruption and misuse of state resources, specifically targeting Modi and the Adani Group—a conglomerate recently embroiled in scandal.

Political analysts suggest that this narrative construction is a novel approach for the BJP, framing its struggle as a battle against a "Western-backed coalition." Critics, however, view the focus on Soros as a diversion from pressing domestic issues, such as the situation in Manipur and the U.S. indictment of Adani.

Soros’ funding initiatives have also sparked allegations of anti-Semitic undertones in these political conspiracies, despite claims that Indian narratives avoid such implications. The BJP’s relentless targeting of Soros appears to reflect a strategic pivot towards nationalist sentiments, aiming to rally support amidst a challenging political landscape, while also attempting to reshape the narrative of foreign influence in domestic affairs.
