Australian startup Kapture has developed a groundbreaking concrete mixture that could help combat carbon pollution. The technology involves sequestering carbon dioxide emissions within the concrete, helping reduce the overheating of the planet. By capturing emissions from diesel engines used in the concrete creation process, Kapture is able to replace Portland cement with the byproduct, which is another major contributor to global pollution. This innovative solution aims to offset between 0.7 and 1.2 tons of carbon dioxide pollution for every ton of solvent used.

The production of concrete is a significant source of carbon dioxide emissions, accounting for 8% of global annual pollution. Kapture’s technology is unique, but other companies are also exploring ways to reduce carbon pollution through concrete production, such as using hazardous waste products, hempcrete, or rice-based concrete. Kapture has partnered with PERMAcast and an Australian energy provider to implement the new process.

CEO Raj Bagri believes that by targeting true sources of emissions and reducing concrete emissions without a green premium, their technology could have a significant positive impact on the environment. As the company moves forward with their plans, they hope to continue making strides towards a cleaner, cooler future.
